Miranda Morrison is an Operations Specialist at Variant delivering help for truck drivers on the road daily. She shared with us a few of the reasons why she thinks Variant is the best in the trucking industry at driver logistics and providing drivers with the support they need to succeed.
A better way to handle fleet management and driver logistics
When we created our new structure, we did a couple of things. First, we replaced the traditional planning manager role with ultra-efficient route planning software. Next, we said Goodbye to Fleet Managers and did away with the old fleet management role to pave the way for our Operations Specialists.
“The typical fleet has a VP, Fleet Owner, and Fleet Manager on the fleet side and Planning Managers on the planning side,” said Miranda. “But at Variant, we've cut out all those positions and empowered the person dealing with the driver to make the decisions.”
It’s true. Every Operations Specialist has the tools they need to help any of our drivers. None of the time-consuming back-and-forth B.S. that drives everyone crazy.
It works better for everyone—especially our drivers.
“We always try to make the executive decision in the best interests of the driver,” Miranda noted. “And I feel empowered to be able to take care of a driver. It's my duty to get them mileage consistently and get them home on time. That allows them to focus fully on doing what they do best.”
Fast help for truck drivers when they need it
Truck drivers are used to delays. In fact, they happen a surprisingly high amount of the time when dealing with shippers. We know that all that waiting can be frustrating.
So, when drivers encounter an issue such as a delay, our Operations Specialists waste no time figuring out ways to get drivers back on the road. When they need assistance, our drivers simply send a chat message in the Variant app or pick up the phone, and an Operations Specialist gets to work almost immediately.
“Whether we’re communicating by phone or in the app, we take a lot of pride in being able to resolve problems within minutes,” said Miranda. “Sometimes it takes longer, but for the most part, we’re able to deliver solutions quickly.”
Miles apart but closer than ever
No driver wants to feel alone on the road. And it helps knowing there’s someone who always has your back. Since Operations Specialists interact directly with each driver to provide logistics solutions, they get to know them on a first-name basis.
“I don't look at anybody as just a truck number,” Miranda said. “Once you build that foundation with a driver, it takes you to a whole new level of working relationship. We trust one another, and drivers know they can count on me. That's very rewarding—knowing that someone else trusts you to support them.”
